Site Description
"Corner Plaza" is one of four defined areas for potential garden installations. Located at the southwest corner of Smith Street and Graham Avenue, the site offers wrap-around circulation paths, prominent views, and proximity to existing public artworks. Entrants are also welcome to propose alternative sites within this block. Note that the south lane of Graham Avenue must remain open for emergency vehicle access. Installations are not required to use the entirety of any site.
Site Conditions
-
Site surface is entirely concrete
-
Potential for installation in the middle of a wide triangular sidewalk
-
Corner site creates potential for high visibility from several directions and allows for pedestrian circulation around the installation
-
An adjacent raised skywalk tunnel creates opportunity to view installation from above
-
An existing shimmering public artwork Waterfall #2 by Teresa Himmer is installed high above this site on the Millennium Library façade
-
The site is meters away from the Millennium Library Park to the south of the library building, which is home to several other public artworks set within a landscaped urban oasis
-
Consider how installations may relate to existing public art and/or take advantage of the site’s high visibility
-
Pedestrian right-of-way and emergency services access must be maintained
